2023 election: Buhari asked to sack, probe Defence Chief, Irabor

Following his statement that security personnel were under significant pressure to compromise the 2023 general elections, President Muhammadu Buhari has been asked to fire CDS Gen. Lucky Irabor.

A thorough investigation of Nigeria’s top military chief was necessary to uncover those who were secretly pushing for the death of the nation’s democracy through unsavory roles with the military, and Buhari was urged not to cover up the statement.

Following his immediate removal from his position, he was urged to subject Irabor to the disclosure of the identities of those working behind the scenes to compromise the electoral system.

Keep in mind that Irabor had stated that Nigerians could rest assured that it would remain neutral despite constant pressure to compromise the 2023 elections.

Irabor, who was quoted as speaking at the 61st State House Ministerial Briefing held at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja by the Presidential Communications Team, insisted that military personnel are subjected to inducements.

He, on the other hand, promised that the armed forces would continue to be neutral because they are complying with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to do so.

In response, the civil society organization Conference of Civil Society Advocates for Electoral Stability stated that “the populace may not trust electoral process anymore unless something is done fast” and that Irabor’s statement was a direct attack on the Nigerian government and its security agencies, particularly the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The CSO tasked both the local and international communities to initiate an immediate investigation into the allegation to determine its veracity in a statement released by its National President, Dr. Clement Eromosele.

The statement begins with: According to a statement attributed to General Lucky Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff, the Nigerian military is under pressure to compromise the 2023 general election, but they are doing everything in their power to comply with the President’s order to hold a free and fair election.

“We in the civil society view this statement as a very serious statement that must be taken seriously by the Nigerian Government, the Nigerian people, and the international community. While some may view this statement as one of General Irabor’s careless and typical media blunders,”

“Unless something is done quickly, the public may no longer have faith in our ongoing electoral process. The statement is a direct indictment of the Nigerian government and our security agencies, particularly the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“For our part, we demand the immediate dismissal of Chief of Defense Staff General Lucky Irabor and subject him to an immediate investigation to verify the statement in the interest of peace.

“The Chief of Defense Staff is a very high-ranking government official who; He has made such statements, and they should not be ignored.

“The local and international community must thoroughly investigate this statement to determine its veracity.”

The team added: Then again, we really believe that the assertion by Broad Irabor is intended to extort the president for a few certain reasons which just Broad Irabor can make sense of.”

“Nigeria must immediately join the call for Irabor’s ouster as well as that of all the incompetent service chiefs whose incompetence has caused our current security situation to deteriorate.

“Now, Mr. President needs to use a big stick. The statement directly criticizes the president and his staff. We demand that he take immediate action to demonstrate to Nigerians that he is not attempting to interfere with the 2023 election.
