The citizens of the United States Embassy in Nigeria have been warned about the possibility of protests following the February 25 and March 11 elections in Nigeria.

Additionally, the Embassy stated that nationwide restrictions on movement would be expected, as was the case in previous elections.

The Embassy advised its nationals to stay away from rallies in a notice on its website titled “Security Alert – Possible Protests Leading to Elections and Restricted Movements on Election Days.” It warned that rallies can turn violent without warning.

In the event that movement restrictions continue beyond election day, it also advised American citizens living in the country to keep food and water at home for three days.
