WARNING:Banks are urged by the CBN to collect the revised notes or face sanctions.

Mr. Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank, has asked commercial banks to go to the apex bank branches all over the country to get the new naira notes.

When the apex bank visited Computer Village, Ikeja, on Wednesday in Lagos as part of its awareness tour regarding the adoption of the newly redesigned naira notes, Emefiele made the call.

He stated that the commercial banks were waiting for the new naira notes to be picked up from the apex bank’s vaults.

We have been asking banks all over the country to go to the Central Bank of Nigeria to get the new notes; In order to accommodate the banks, we have even waived some of the conditions for gaining access to currency notes.
“The banks were being given slots before, but now the Central Bank of Nigeria is bending over backwards to accommodate the demands of the banks in order to service them so that they can service you and so that everyone will have access to the new naira notes,” Emefiele stated in the advertisement. “The banks were being given slots before.”

Mr. Kofo Salam-Alada, Director, Legal Services Department, CBN, represented Emefiele, who stated that the apex bank was seriously attempting to ensure that the new notes were used everywhere.

Emefiele stated, I went to some ATMs this morning, filed a report, and I spoke with the management of the various banks. One part of what we are doing is that we have monitors going around the banks now.

Additionally, he stated that any bank that fails to deposit the redesigned currency into its ATMs or pick up the new notes will be subject to penalties.

He reassured the marketers that their difficulties would soon be resolved.

If they encounter difficulties accessing the new notes, Emefiele advised them to call 08176657641, 08176657642, 08176656721, or 07080650791. Additionally, they should send messages to newnaira@cbn.gov.ng.

Emefiele reiterated that the old naira note submission deadline of January 31 was sacred, urging individuals to deposit their old notes to avoid being caught off guard.

He also urged people to use the eNaira and other electronic channels for their banking transactions, and he said that the apex bank was already working to get more merchants to use the digital currency.

“All ATMs should load the new naira notes; there should be no banks that are not given the new naira notes from the ATMs.”

Emefiele and his team also went to the Palace of the Olu of Ikeja Land, where they were greeted by Chief Lateef Oluseyi, the Olukosi of Ikeja Land.

He was informed by Emefiele about the new policies and the apex bank’s decision to change the 1,000, 500, and 200 denominations.

He also used water to wash the new N1000 note to dispel some people’s doubts about the notes’ authenticity.
