Afenifere justifies Obi’s endorsement, Tinubu’s team fumes

The Yoruba socio-political gathering, Afenifere, on Monday supported its choice to back the official applicant of the Work Party, Peter Obi, for the 2023 races.

The gathering’s chief, Boss Ayo Adebanjo, spread the word about its situation at a public interview in Lagos.

Supporting the choice, Adebanjo said the gathering wouldn’t think twice about standard of equity, value and comprehensiveness in light of the fact that the official competitor of the All Moderates Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is a Yoruba man.

He said, “The South-West has delivered a President and at present sits as VP; the South has spent a sum of six years in the Administration, yet the Igbo nation of the South-East have never tasted administration in Nigeria, and now that the power is expected back in the South, value requests that it be surrendered to the Igbo.

“We can’t keep on requesting that the Igbo public stay in Nigeria while we, simultaneously, proceed to minimize and reject them from the power elements ruthlessly.

“Peter Obi is the individual of Igbo extraction that Afenifere has chosen to help and back; he is the man we trust to rebuild the nation back to federalism with the understanding of office.

“We won’t think twice about rule of equity, value and comprehensiveness since one of our own, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is a cutting edge competitor. It is on this equivalent rule we denounce the People groups Progressive faction for supporting Atiku Abubakar, a Northern Fulani Muslim to succeed General Muhammadu Buhari another Fulani Muslim.”

Nonetheless, in his response, the APC representative, Official Mission Chamber, Festus Keyamo, blamed Adebanjo for advancing his plan as the place of the skillet Yoruba bunch.

Keyamo told The PUNCH on Monday that he remained by a prior articulation delivered by the board’s Overseer of Media and Exposure, Bayo Onanuga.

He said, “We stand by the proclamation gave yesterday (Sunday) by our mission gathering media chief. Afenifere isn’t the mouthpiece of the Yoruba. The delivery completely tended to the matter.

“The issue is that the Afenifere being referred to is simply Dad Adebanjo attempting to extend his own inclination against Asiwaju. He isn’t seeking after any skillet Yoruba demonstration of nationalism as guaranteed. No, he isn’t.

“Furthermore, his view isn’t the place of the whole Afenifere. He is only a factional individual from the gathering. We know that there was no time Afenifere met to take such a choice.”

Onanuga had, in a prior explanation, portrayed Adebanjo’s underwriting of Obi as an individual choice.

While conceding that he is allowed to help anybody he loves in advancement of his majority rule right, the media chief expressed that the senior legislator doesn’t represent the Yorubas.
