Again, Brymo apologises for Igbo presidency comments

Olawale Olofooro, better known as Brymo, a Nigerian singer, has apologized once more for his remarks regarding the possibility of the South-East producing a Nigerian president.

The singer was criticized for saying that an Igbo presidency would only be a “pipe dream” because prominent people in the region were agitating for Biafra.

Brymo posted a tweet that stated, “An Igbo presidency will be a pipe dream as long as there (are) talks by prominent people from Igboland about Biafra.”

Brymo, a supporter of Bola Tinubu, the candidate for president of the All Progressives Congress, also advised people in the Southeast to try out for the vice presidency before trying for the presidency.

His remarks had sparked negative responses on social media, with numerous individuals labeling him an “Igbophobe” and calling him a tribal bigot.

Brymo, on the other hand, issued an apology via Instagram on Friday night. Going live on the social media platform, Brymo said that the problem started when he shared his opinion about how author Chimamanda Adichie accepted a chieftaincy title in her hometown of Abba, Anambra State, instead of national honors.

He offered an apology, saying, “I did not insult the tribe, and I am sorry to anyone who it sounded like it to.” I was attempting to weigh in on a very significant issue.

However, early on Monday morning, he issued a second apology via Twitter, writing, “Forgive my assertions that came across as bigoted spewings against the Igbo tribe, I did not mean to do harm, I am sorry!!”

His first apology came after a petition was signed by thousands of Nigerians to prevent the singer from winning the All Africa Music Award, where he was up for “Songwriter of the Year.”
