According to the president, Amaechi hosted the late South African President Nelson Mandela at his Lagos home.

According to Buhari, Mandela sought refuge in Amaechi’s home when he was declared wanted by the South African apartheid regime at the time.

He said that the late elder statesman was a patriot and a lover of humanity because of this act.
