2023 Elections: Shun reckless statements, NSCIA urges politicians, Nigerians

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has urged politicians in Nigeria to refrain from making statements that incite violence or threaten to do so.

In addition, the group urged Nigerians to remain calm and pray instead of joining political parties in making provocative and careless statements at this time.

In a statement that was signed by its Director of Administration, Arc, and Deputy Secretary-General, Prof. Salisu Shehu, NSCIA made these known. on Tuesday, Zubairu Haruna Usman-Ugwu.

The statement read, “The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) warns political leaders and actors against making provocative statements that could drag the country into unnecessary conflict and anarchy.”

“While reckless statements from insignificant individuals can be easily ignored, respected political and religious leaders do not fall into this category.

“In the ongoing electoral process, it is essential that patriotic and well-intentioned Nigerian leaders support unwavering adherence to process and procedure.

This is due to the fact that “any inclination to unprocedural decision or action at this critical time is a direct call for anarchy, which will yield no positive result for the nation.”

Additionally, the NSCIA urged the electoral body to remain committed to the democratic process.

It went on to say that “in the meantime, the NSCIA advises the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain undistracted and committed to its duty until it discharges it to its logical conclusion.”

“All Nigerians, Muslims especially, are urged to remain calm and pray no matter how provocative certain groups are.

It continued, “May Almighty Allah keep our country stable and peaceful.”
