BREAKING: Popular Nigerian Singer, Majek Fashek Is Dead

Popular Nigerian Singer and Reggae King, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly called Majek Fashek, is dead.



His death was confirmed to SaharaNews by his manager, Omenka Uzoma.

“Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African No 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORD his Maker,” he said.



“Let celebrate him, his achievements, and his family, whatever decisions made by his immediate family will be notified.”

57 years old Majek Fashek, born in Benin-City, Edo state, took Nigeria’s music industry in the 80s by storm.



He is best known for the 1988 album Prisoner of Conscience, which included the multiple award-winning single “Send Down the Rain.”

He has worked with various artists worldwide, including Tracy Chapman, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg, and Beyoncé.



The reggae star’s last video was uploaded on his Instagram handle a month ago.

In it, Majek, who has been having health challenges over the years mustered strength to add his voice to the ongoing public awareness campaign by Nigerian celebrities on the need to fight the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic.
