BREAKING:Court dismisses Saraki’s suits against EFCC, ICPC

Two separate lawsuits filed by former Senate President Bukola Saraki have been dismissed by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Saraki filed a lawsuit against the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

On Wednesday, the lawsuits were declared null and void by Justice Inyang Ekwo due to a lack of diligent prosecution.

Both the defendants’ and Saraki’s attorneys were absent from the proceedings.

The Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, the Inspector General of Police, and the Department of State Security, DSS, were co-defendants in the suits that the former governor of Kwara had filed, FHC/ABJ/CS/507/2019 and FHC/ABJ/CS/508/2019.

In 2019, Saraki opposed the EFCC’s decision to investigate his earnings while he was governor, from 2003 to 2011.

An interim order of forfeiture issued in October 2019 was overturned by the Federal High Court in Lagos in March 2021.

The EFCC’s request to seize Saraki’s properties on Nos. 17 and 17A, MacDonald Road, Ikoyi, was then granted by the court.
