BREAKING:Medical Group Raises Alarm over Kanu’s health result, say he may die in detention if not given urgent medical attention

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has been in a worsening health condition, according to a group of medical practitioners working under the auspices of Biafra Medical Practitioners (BMP). They claim that Kanu could die in detention if he is not allowed to receive proper medical care.

An open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari was issued on Sunday following a meeting in Abuja by the group that called for Kanu’s immediate release to prevent a national crisis in the event that the Biafran agitator were to die in the DSS detention facility.

Based on their interactions with Kanu’s legal team and family, the Biafran medical practitioners confirmed that Kanu requires immediate release for urgent medical evaluation and treatment.

According to the letter, a recent medical report that they had access to had revealed that Kanu already has a heart condition that has gotten worse as a result of poor nutrition, psychological torture, social isolation, and electrolyte imbalance.

“We, the Biafra Medical Practitioners (BMP), would like to bring your attention to the urgent need for Kanu, the leader of the IPOB, to receive proper medical care. Kanu is currently being held in solitary confinement by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Kanu needs to be freed right away so that he can receive independent medical care. He should be sent to his country of citizenship for proper medical care because he is British.

“Kanu was kidnapped from Kenya on June 27, 2021, and he was transferred to Abuja, where he is still incarcerated, despite the rulings of several trial courts, including the Appeal Court of Nigeria, which had cleared him of all charges.

“Kanu cannot receive proper medical care in Nigeria as a result of the Nigerian government’s kidnapping and rendition. He must be sent abroad for fair, humane, and adequate medical care.

“It is reported that he has been denied food and proper medication since his detention at the DSS facility, which has deteriorated his health.

The organization stated, “Evidently, there is an inherent bias in his treatment, which is a violation of his human rights.”
