Ebonyi, Kogi, Yobe, others ask FG for funds to establish cattle ranches

After the initial rejection of the plan to establish nationwide cattle ranches, Ebonyi and some other states in Nigeria are asking the federal government for funds to establish ranches, OAK METRO reports.

This, followed after the government announced it would provide funds to Nasarawa and Plateau states to establish modern ranches under the National Livestock Transformation Programme (NLTP).

Andrew Kwasari, the Special Assistant to the President on Agriculture and coordinator of the National Livestock Transformation Plan, told Daily Trust that the states now requesting for funds, are: Benue, Ondo, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Kogi, Kaduna, Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Kano, Katsina, Bauchi, Yobe, Borno, Gombe and Niger, Sokoto and Kwara States.

Kwasari, who said the funds would be disbursed to the states if they meet conditions, revealed that the project will be funded with collaborations and counterpart funding.

Many Nigerians, mostly citizens of the south, had opposed plans to establish cattle ranches nationwide for Fulani herders.

The plan initially called “RUGA” returned again under the guise of the National Livestock Transformation Program (NLTP).
