Man City ‘reach agreement’ to sign Wolves midfielder Nunes

On Wednesday, reports indicate that Manchester City and Wolves have arrived at a verbal understanding regarding a transfer fee for Portuguese midfielder Matheus Nunes. The agreement entails Manchester City paying Wolves £47 million ($60 million) upfront, excluding additional clauses. However, the deal is still pending finalization.

As part of a distinct arrangement, Manchester City’s 21-year-old midfielder Tommy Doyle is set to embark on a loan spell with Wolves, accompanied by a potential purchase option.

City’s initial offer for Nunes was declined, leading the 25-year-old to abstain from Wolves’ training sessions, hoping to push for a transfer in the final days of the transfer window.

Following Wolves’ 5-0 League Cup victory against Blackpool on Tuesday, manager Gary O’Neil remarked that he was uninformed about any improved bid from City and anticipated Nunes to stay with the team beyond Friday’s deadline. However, the circumstances have rapidly evolved.

Nunes had previously become the record signing for the Premier League club when he was acquired from Sporting Lisbon for an initial £38 million last year.

Throughout the previous season, he participated in 34 top-flight matches, contributing one goal to his tally.
