We didn’t disown Igboho, we support him and Nnamdi Kanu — Southern Youths

A Nigerian youth group, the Southern Youth Forum (SYF), said it had not withdrawn its support for Biafran pro-independence leader Nnamdi Kanu and Yoruba separatist leader Sunday Igboho.

The group that made this known on Thursday in a disclaimer, signed by its national president, Adewale Lekan and spokesperson Dezia Kue, said,

“Our attention was drawn to this publication, which claimed that the Southern Youth Forum (SYF) disowned Sunday Igboho, adding that he does not represent our interest and that of the poor masses of the South.

“While we trail those who released the statement with our name (if they really exist), we hereby advise the general public to disregard this statement, as it did not uprise from the Southern Youth Forum.

“We reiterate our support for Sunday Igboho, Nnamdi Kanu and anyone protecting our land from Fulani invaders, and also legally agitating for the freedom of our people.”

Kanu, who was seized in Kenya and illegally repatriated to Nigeria, is on trial for alleged treason and other unfounded crimes, while Igboho, who was arrested in the Republic of Benin after fleeing Nigeria, is being investigated and tried by the Beninese authorities for “illegal entry” into the country.
