World Cup: Messi named greatest player of all time

Lionel Scaloni, Argentina’s head coach, has referred to captain Lionel Messi as the “greatest player of all time.”

Scaloni made these remarks after Messi led Argentina to a penalty kick victory over the Netherlands after the World Cup quarterfinal match ended 2-2.

Keep in mind that Messi scored during the match, leading Argentina to a 4-3 victory over Netherlands in a penalty shootout.

Scaloni said the following during his post-game press conference (via UK Sports Mole): Leo (Lionel Messi) demonstrated today that he is the greatest player ever.

He went on to say, “This team possesses the spirit to be able to face the situation at any time. We did not deserve to be penalized, in my opinion, but the team continued to show its face.

“We were in control of the game, but football has this quality, even when you think everything is over. This group is young and proud. Never give up is essential.

On Tuesday, Argentina will play Croatia in the World Cup semi-final matchup.
