Bakassi Blockade: BnL leader criticizes Daily Trust over false report

Princewill Chimezie Richards, the leader of Biafra Nations League (BnL), has criticized Nigerian newspaper, Daily Trust, for linking the seizure and hoisting of Biafran flag at the entry point to Bakassi Local Government Area in Cross River State, to members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The newspaper had claimed on its website that IPOB members chased way security operatives at the Bakassi entrance and hoist a Biafra flag, a report confirmed to be false and didn’t occur on November 18, 2021.

Reacting to the report, BnL leader, Princewill Chimezie Richards, described it as ill-conceived, saying Daily Trust spreads false news.

“Daily Trust has always been biased and spread false news. Their report came as no surprise as it was the same Daily Trust that linked so many activities of unknown gunmen to IPOB. That’s how the media are contributing to the problem in Nigeria,” he told OAK METRO which had witnessed and published about the incident on November 8, 2021.

“Our members blocked ‘Welcome To Bakassi’ last week and hoisted the flag of Biafra, not IPOB. We even confirmed and claimed responsibility for it the same day on our verified Facebook page. Our members who reside there did it, not strangers as the Daily Trust claims,” he said.

Meanwhile, the authorities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the area disassociated themselves from the incident, saying those were not members of IPOB.
