BREAKING: Court orders INEC to resume voters registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was given an order on Tuesday by a Federal High Court in Abuja to immediately resume continuous voter registration (CVR) until 90 days before the general elections in 2023.
In a judgment, Justice Inyang Ekwo also told INEC to make sure that eligible Nigerians don’t miss out on the chance to get a voter’s card for the next election.
According to Justice Ekwo’s decision, the electoral umpire was obligated by the constitution to make adequate preparations for the election in accordance with Nigerian law.
The judge declared, “The plaintiffs’ case succeeds on merit.”
According to NAN, Anajat Salmat and three others had filed a lawsuit against INEC, naming INEC as the sole defendant.FHC/ABJ/CS/1343/2022.
The plaintiffs argued, in the court’s initial summons, that INEC cannot halt the CVR in violation of the constitution’s stipulated provisions.
They pleaded with the court to direct the electoral umpire to resume the procedure in accordance with national law.
