BREAKING: Gas explosion rocks Effurun Warri.

Warri: Nelmic, a significant gas plant on the Effurun portion of the Warri-Sapele road, caught fire around 10:30 p.m. on Monday.

At the time of this writing, firefighters were still battling to put out the raging fire. There were unconfirmed claims that some people may have died.

Gweke, a nearby resident, told the Vanguard that from their homes, they saw balls of fire lighting up the pitch-black sky, and then there was a loud explosion.

Some of us began to flee our homes in an effort to determine the source of the fire and explosion. We later discovered that it came from the nearby gas plant.

“I doubt it, but I hope nobody died. He concluded, “This fire I see must have killed some people.”

That section of the busy Warri-Sapele road was avoided by the few vehicles on the road at that hour.

Some people were seen attempting to capture fire scenes with their phones and sharing them on social media.
