BREAKING: Oyetola Osun’s government is declared after the tribunal invalidates Adeleke’s election.

Friday, the Election Petitions Tribunal that was hearing Adegboyega Oyetola’s petition against the Peoples Democratic Party’s Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the Osun governorship election on July 16 declared the results invalid.

In a majority decision, Justice Tetsea Kume stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission did not substantially comply with the Electoral Act and the constitution.

After subtracting the observed overvoting from the candidates’ votes, he declared that Oyetola had won the election with 314, 921 votes, while Adeleke had received 290, 266 votes.

He instructed INEC to revoke Adeleke’s return certificate and issue a new one to Oyetola, who received the majority of legitimate votes.
