BREAKING:UTME candidates can now self-generate profile codes — JAMB

Candidates for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, or UTME, have been informed by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) that they are now able to generate their own profile codes and save them for use when registration begins.

This was made public by the board in its Abuja-based Weekly Bulletin on Monday.

JAMB says as much: It is recommended that candidates obtain their National Identification Number, or NIN, as it is a requirement for Direct Entry, DE, and UTME registrations.

“For the purpose of the process, candidates must use a distinct mobile phone number, which can only be used by one candidate.

It explained, “The candidate will receive a profile code of ten characters on the same telephone number.”
JAMB advised candidates that the phone number used to send the text message to either of the two quick codes was automatically tied to their respective names, and that it would also be used by the board in all communications relating to application, examination, and admission. The board strongly advised prospective candidates against using and applying henna, also known as “Lalle.”

Because it has been established that applying henna to the fingers obstructs the process of biometric verification, this was done, according to JAMB, in order to avoid difficulties with biometric verification.

It added, “Also, candidates use chemicals that damage the whorls on their fingers in an attempt by candidates to clean their fancy henna designs, making biometric verification and authentication difficult, if not impossible.”
