‘DSS rejects N1m from Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers to buy his medication’

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the legal representative of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, claims that the Department of State Services has not provided the IPOB leader with his prescribed medication for heart/chest burns for the past nine days.

According to Ejiofor, the head of Kanu’s legal team, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, gave N1 million to the DSS in order to obtain Kanu’s medication; however, the secret police rejected the money, claiming that it had the financial resources to provide the drugs.

The lawyer then stated that the DSS has continued to detain the IPOB helmsman despite court injunctions that have freed him and has failed to provide him with the necessary medical attention.

Things to know about late Peace Anyiam-Osigwe Ejiofor revealed this in a statement on Monday, following a routine visit to Kanu at the headquarters of the DSS in Abuja. Biafra is not existent, so I’m running as a Nigerian. Peter Obi Serena Williams was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness.

“I visited our indefatigable Client – Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, today, the 9th day of January, 2023, at the DSS detention facility, Abuja, where he is still being unconstitutionally held in solitary confinement,” was one portion of the statement.

“The majority of the holidays, the legal team worked secretly on important legal engagements that will guarantee Kanu’s freedom. As a result, this is our first encounter with Kanu this new year.

“Thanks to the efforts of our eminent Lead Counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, I had fruitful briefings regarding the most recent positive update on the hearing of our appeal before the Supreme Court. The specifics, on the other hand, will be made available to the public at some point.

“Onyendu reiterated his confidence and optimism in our legal team’s ability to defeat the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), led by the legal Iroko – Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN.

“We have no choice but to always go public to vent our grievances with their unlawful activities with respect to their management of Onyendu, and to consequently demand that Onyendu’s full medication, prescribed for the management of his deteriorating health condition be administered immediately and without further ado,” the statement reads. “Since all channel of complaints to the detaining authority (DSS) has been closed.”

“Though our eminent lead counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, swung into action immediately to press for the necessary to be done without further ado, it is important to point out that only a few weeks ago, our lead counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, made a cash sum of N1,000,000.00 (One Million Naira only) available to the DSS to specifically be applied for Kanu’s medical needs and routine meals. Sadly, the detaining authority (DSS) refused to accept the funds, claiming that they have everything necessary to provide for Kanu’s routine meals and medical requirements.

Therefore, it raises the following concerns: Why is it that the DSS is unable to fulfill the statutory requirement to cover Kanu’s medical expenses? Why are they unable to provide him with these all-important, vitally important medications? Why are they holding Kanu indefinitely while slyly refusing to provide for his medical requirements?

“If Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is merely agitating for the self-determination of the Biafran people and has been discharged and his further detention has been prohibited by the Court of Appeal, then why is he being detained when the Federal Government of Nigeria is releasing terrorists into the society? What is the justification for this?

“We are therefore urging the foreign governments and agencies to take seriously the deteriorating medical condition of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and to persuade the Nigerian government to simply obey the Order/Judgment of the Court of Appeal that directed for the unconditional and immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. This judgment further prohibited the DSS from further detaining Kanu.

“At the conclusion of the exclusive visit, Kanu kindly requested that his greetings and greetings for the New Year be extended to you all, Ezigbo UmuChineke, as he kindly conveys his prayers for a better tomorrow for us all.”
