Election: Police restrict movement in Kastina

During the elections for governor and state assembly on Saturday, the Katsina State Police Command made restrictions on the movement of people and vehicles in the state known on Wednesday.

The order in a proclamation unveiled in Katsina on Wednesday night said the limitations were intended to guarantee free and fair decisions.

Additionally, the command stated that the restrictions were intended to safeguard the electorate before, during, and after the elections.

“The Katsina State Police Command in its determination and total commitment towards free, fair, credible and peaceful governorship and state House of Assembly elections, scheduled to hold on Saturday, March 18, 2023, across all the 34 local governments areas of Katsina State,” read the statement signed by the command’s spokesman, SP Gambo Isah. wishes to inform the general public that the following restriction orders have been issued by the command following thorough consultation with relevant stakeholders overseeing and supervising the forthcoming election:

That no one will be able to move at all between midnight on Friday, March 17, 2023, and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

“Politicians and Very Important People (VIPs) cannot go to any voting center with their security guards or orderlies. Additionally, they are cautioned not to move on that day, as required by the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended).

The police also stated that all entry points into and out of the state would be manned, and they advised parents to warn their children against any act that could jeopardize the state’s peace. 15 people were arrested in Katsina on suspicion of tampering with results.

“Security personnel are going to guard and block all points of entry and exit into the state. There will be no movement permitted until the elections are over.

“To ensure that this order is followed and that the exercise goes off without a hitch, the police and other security personnel will be conducting robust and purposeful patrols. The command has made sufficient preparations to ensure that all voters can cast their ballots in large numbers without fear of harassment or molesting.

“The deployment of police officers and other members of sister security agencies to guard the polling stations has also been completed.”

We are urging all decent Katsina State residents to work with the police and other security agencies to ensure the success of the elections. The Command also warns that any individual or group that might try to undermine the electoral process will be dealt with severely. The full wrath of the law will fall on anyone caught breaking any infractions aimed at undermining any of the electoral laws or any other law of the land, so parents are urged to advise their children not to engage in any potential illegal activity.

The statement went on to say, “In this regard, the Commissioner of Police Katsina state Command, CP Yusuf Akeem wishes the good people of the state, a peaceful and successful conduct of the governorship and state House of Assembly elections, please.”
