Fulani gunmen abduct many civilians at Kogi railway stop-point, kill one

Fulani gunmen killed one person on Monday at a railway stop-point on Itobe -Adogo – Okene road in Kogi state. Also, many were feared to have been abducted to an unknown destination.

Daily Trust reports that the incident happened around 3 pm on Monday on the said highway near Adogo, the headquarters of Ajaokuta Local Government Area at a point where trains from Ajaokuta cross to Itakpe.

A resident around the area who confirmed the incident denied knowledge of how many were abducted but said a person was killed during the operation.

Another source posited that the armed hoodlums stormed the railway stop-point,  opened fire on a man in a vehicle, and killed him instantly.

Daily Trust learnt that in an ensued confusion,  the hoodlums abducted many people at gunpoint to an unknown destination.

It was further gathered that most of the kidnapped victims were said to be residents of the Ajaokuta village and its environs who were waiting to board the train to their various destinations.

However, the Kogi State Police command has confirmed the incident stating that one person was killed by the hoodlums during the incident.

According to the State Command’s Police  Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya, the incident happened on Okene- Adogo – Itobe highway, saying a gunshot on the said highway attracted the men of the command who were on patrol around the area.

He added that on getting to the point of the gunshot, the police operative saw a person in a pool of his blood in a vehicle, with nobody in sight.

ASP Aya disclosed further that the said man died on the way to Okene where the operatives were rushing him for treatment.

He said the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka has drafted men of the command to comb the area in order to get a lead that will assist in arresting the hoodlums behind the incident.
