Igbo-land being treated like a cemetery in Nigeria — Soludo

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, says Nigeria should begin to build other states and hinterland to reduce the exodus of people to Lagos for economic prosperity.

Soludo, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, said his vision was to make Anambra a prosperous homeland for the people of the state and not a cemetery where people only come home for burial every weekend.

He spoke in Lagos at the weekend while unveiling his agenda for the people of Anambra in Lagos, declaring that “the homeland is treated as a cemetery.”

Soludo said he was committed to changing the narrative where people only come home for burial of their loved ones, saying no one can truly say he is prosperous when the homeland is not progressing.

Flanked by leaders of the party including APGA National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh and other leaders and stakeholders of the party in the state, Soludo said his dream was to make Anambra an investment destination.

He said: “Our vision for Anambra is to build a livable and prosperous homeland. We want Anambra to be the preferred destination for people to live, to work, to learn, to invest and to relax and enjoy.

“Lagos is not a sustainable home. It is not sustainable long term…If the current trend continues, Lagos is not sustainable. Nigeria must begin to think about the alternative, but more sustainable Lagos.

“Anambra, parts of Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa and Imo can become the new axes of prosperity and that is what I see in my dream and that journey we must begin. A journey of a thousand miles must start with one big step and that is why I’m running.”
