In Bayelsa, a dispute over ₦50 (Nigerian Naira) led to a Keke (tricycle) driver stabbing a passenger to death.

An unidentified driver from Northern Nigeria has allegedly stabbed a passenger to death over a ₦50 dispute in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, leading to scores of tricycles being set ablaze by angry youths. The incident occurred at Saptex junction in Yenegoa.

The victim, ThankGod Douglas, an indigene of Yenizue-Epie Town in Yenagoa LGA of Bayelsa State, was stabbed by a keke driver who refused to accept the ₦50 payment and insisted on receiving ₦100 instead. The driver then stabbed Douglas to death when he refused to pay the additional ₦50.

The driver was immediately mobbed to death by youths in the area who identified him. The youths also vented their anger on other Hausa tricycle drivers in the area, burning scores of tricycles and destroying cars perceived to be owned by Northerners.
