It’s time to save Nigeria, be fair — Pastor Enenche tells Judiciary

Dr. Paul Enenche, senior pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, DIGC, has advised the judiciary to be transparent, fair, and set the country on the right path of electoral justice as the Labour Party, LP, and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, head to court over the conduct of the 2023 presidential election.

While Enenche acknowledged that the 2023 presidential election lacked credibility and probity, he also stated that Malawi was caught in a similar situation, but the Judiciary was able to rescue it and set the course for constitutional democracy in Malawi.

The Senior Pastor took to his social media account to voice his concerns about the recently concluded election and also urged the court to keep the common man at the bottom.

He stated, Learn from the story of the 2019 presidential election in Malawi if you’re wondering if judicial intervention can achieve electoral justice.

“Not only was the incumbent party competing in that election, but so was the incumbent president. He was declared the winner after rigging his way to victory. The overwhelming and undeniable evidence of electoral fraud created an atmosphere of widespread national discontent and disappointment among citizens.

“The parties who were harmed took the case to the country’s constitutional court, claiming that widespread rigging, irregularities, and malpractices in favor of the incumbent president were committed.

“Invoking widespread, systematic, and grave irregularities, the constitutional court declared the election invalid and demanded a rerun.

The Supreme Court rejected the appeal filed by the incumbent president—the alleged winner.

“In its decision, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutional court’s decision, nullifying the election and calling for a rerun. In point of fact, it stated that the Supreme Court would have declared the actual winner the outright winner of the election if the constitutional court had not called for a rerun in its ruling.

“The court-ordered rerun election was held, and the actual winner of the rigged election emerged victorious with 58% of the votes cast, beating out the incumbent with 39% of the votes cast.

As a result, Malawi, a nation in Sub-Saharan Africa, set the standard for constitutional democracy by removing a president who was in office and the government that was in charge through a judicial process. In addition to upholding justice, the judges who established this historic constitutional record made sure that the popular will of the people prevailed over the egotistical interests of the party and government in power. As the last semblance of the common man’s hope and the citadel of justice, the Malawian judiciary lived up to their mission.

“In every civilized society, the judiciary remains the last hope for justice.

As citizens, we are turning to the judiciary to ensure electoral justice in Nigeria, where we are currently confronted with a scenario that is comparable.

“Because Nigeria is a sub-regional and regional leader in terms of both political and economic ramifications, much more is expected of the judiciary there. The legal executive in Nigeria has now before it, the decision to either think twice about values or combine on equity. It’s the decision between being honest and honorable and falling into compromise and obscurity.

“We believe the judiciary will do the right thing. It is time to save Nigeria and set her on a path of electoral justice, peace, and development. It is time to save Nigeria. The Nigerian judiciary, like Malawi’s, now has a golden chance to make a name for itself by ensuring that democracy remains the government of the people, by the people, and for the people, and not something that can be sold to anyone.
