JUST IN:The APC has kept every election promise it made to Nigerians—Buhari

According to President Muhammadu Buhari’s assessment of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s seven and a half years in power, the ruling party under his leadership has fulfilled all of the electoral promises made to Nigerians at all levels.

During his one-day official visit to Kogi State, which began Thursday at the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, the president also said that Governor Yahaya Bello had done a good job during his two terms as governor.

He asserts, “We are an administration that takes pride in the realization of our electoral promises to the Nigerian people, at both the national and subnational levels.” As evidence of our stewardship of Kogi State, I am pleased that we have an impressive array of legacy projects through your state government.

In Kogi State, the APC administration has left an indelible mark. The Itakpe-Okene bypass, the Obajana-Kababa concrete road constructed by Dangote Industries Limited as part of our “roads for taxes initiate” (Executive Order 7), and the Itakpe-Warri railway service are among the numerous government projects that have been carried out.

“I am very pleased to be here today to commission a number of projects carried out by His Excellency Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration.”

In addition, Buhari mentioned his administration’s determination to position Kogi State as an industrial hub and solid mineral power base. The president stated, “The project stands to benefit the people of the state greatly.” He took the time to explain how the federal government resolved all legal entanglements that had slowed the progress of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex. No other single task holds the way to opening this huge potential however much the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, which we acquired as a long doomed complex strangulating under a knot of nearby and worldwide business debates.

“I am happy to report that as we begin to draw to a close our term in office, we are truly able to say that our administration has rescued Ajaokuta from all legal obstacles and that it is now ready for concession to a private investor with the right profiles to put it to work for Nigeria and Kogi State in particular.

“The process has cost this federal government more than $400 million US so far, but I think it was well spent as we get closer to making Kogi State Nigeria’s iron and steel powerhouse.”

There are numerous advantages to restoring Ajaokuta Steel Complex’s functionality. It would give north of 500,000 assessed positions and more than $1.6 billion in yearly pay to the Nigerian economy. I will continue to work toward bringing this process to a logical conclusion before the end of my term, so Nigerians can rest assured.

Buhari went on to say that the 614-kilometer (384-mile) AKK gas pipeline that will run through Kogi State next year will benefit the state in a variety of ways.

He praised Governor Bello for “stepping up to the plate in many areas, particularly security.” We are proud of him, and I urge Kogi State residents to keep supporting him and his team as they work tirelessly to promote peace, security, and growth in the state.

The president officially launched the following projects: the Reference Hospital Okene, which has a fleet of ambulances and the first hyperbaric treatment chamber in Nigeria; the Okene palace of the new Ohinoyi; the Lokoja interchange and flyover at Ganaja Junction; the Adankolo, Lokoja-based GYB Model Science Secondary School; Lokoja’s Muhammadu Buhari Square, also known as the Civic Center; as well as a fleet of high-tech security vehicles for the purpose of combating criminal activity.

Governor Bello thanked the president for his leadership and the various programs and interventions that had helped the state and its people earlier in his welcome speech. The governor stated that one of these was the Itakpe-Warri rail line, which, he noted, had provided travelers and business owners in the state with relief.

Bello told the president that the projects that were launched were in response to his promise to serve. He said that since he was sworn in on January 27, 2016, his administration had set up a multi-sectoral committee to go around the state and find out what people needed.

The governor made the statement, “This document has been our guide.” The governor thanked the president for his unwavering interest in the project and acknowledged Buhari’s dedication to the revival of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex.

Bello added that the new Ohinoyi’s palace inaugurated by Buhari was evidence of his administration’s cordial relationship with the state’s traditional institution.

Dr. Ibrahim Ado, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, was earlier represented by Alh, the Ohi of Okengwe. On behalf of the state’s traditional rulers, Mohammed Tijjani Anage thanked Buhari for his support of Bello’s administration and for being the first sitting Nigerian president to visit the state on a working visit.
