Leadership Reports a Cold War within Tinubu’s Camp Over Speakership, SGF, and CoS”

Reports suggest that a power struggle is brewing among the close allies of the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The conflict appears to be over a clash of interests and positions as the scheming for prominence gains momentum ahead of the incoming administration’s inauguration.

The conflict came to the fore last week when pseudo campaigners reportedly heightened their game for James Faleke, the secretary of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, to be appointed the Chief of Staff to Tinubu. Before now, it was speculated that Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, had been positioned for the same job currently held by Professor Ibrahim Gambari.

According to an inside source, the struggle for the Chief of Staff position has also spilled over into the race for the speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, with Gbajabiamila allegedly supporting Tajudeen Abbas, while Faleke has cleverly refrained from openly supporting any aspirant but waiting for the party to zone so that he can use his supporters to go against whoever Gbajabiamila supports.

Other close allies of Tinubu, who have reportedly stepped up efforts for positions, are the current minister of special duties and inter-governmental affairs, George Akume, and the outgoing governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, who are both in the race for the position of secretary to the government of the federation (SGF).

The conflict among Tinubu’s close allies has sparked tension and concerns about the unity and stability of the incoming administration. However, some observers believe that it is typical for such conflicts to occur before the inauguration of a new administration, and that it is an indication that the ruling party is vibrant and competitive.
