Man jailed for stealing plastic chairs from church in Ogun

One Lekan Alaka, a 19-year-old man, has been jailed for stealing two dozens of plastic chairs from the Mount Zion Anglican Church, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The police had charged Alaka with theft and arraigned him before Magistrate Olajumoke Somefun of an Abeokuta Magistrate Court.

In her judgement, Somefun said the prosecutor proved his case beyond any reasonable doubt, thereby sentencing Alaka to three months’ imprisonment with an option of N100,000 fine.

The prosecution counsel, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, had earlier informed the court that the man committed the offence around 4:30am on October 23, at the said Anglican church, located at Leme area of Abeokuta.

The prosecutor maintained that the offence contravened Section 415 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
