Mindless bloodletting in Nigeria beyond depressing — Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, has criticized the recent spate of heinous murders of politicians and unarmed Nigerians as “mindless bloodletting” that is “beyond depressing.”

Obi made this statement via his verified Twitter handle while expressing his disapproval of the murder of Barrister Oyibo Chukwu, his party’s candidate for the Senate in Enugu East, on Wednesday night.

At Amechi Awkunanaw, the former Senate President Chief Ken Nnamani’s country home, gunmen killed and burned Chukwu as he was returning to Agbani, Enugu.

The assailants also reportedly killed five supporters who were said to be with him inside his car. Obi was unprepared, undemocratic, and may fail.

Responding to the awful occurrence, Obi said, “We should not keep on toeing this hazardous way.”

“I vehemently denounce the murder of Barr Chukwu in its entirety. Living souls should stay valuable, independent of political connection,” Obi composed.

It is beyond depressing that the nation is committing mindless homicides. We cannot continue on this perilous course.

“It’s time to heal, enough with the killings. The Enugu East Senatorial Zone, our dear Labour Party family, and the bereaved family have my sincere condolences.

The former governor of Anambra pleaded with security personnel to locate and prosecute the murderers of Chukwu.

Obi continued, “I call on the law enforcement agents to fish out the perpetrators of this crime, ensure that Nigerians freely exercise their civic duties without being intimidated, and ensure that this crime is brought to an end.”
