Nnamdi Kanu demands ₦20bn compensation, apologies from Malami

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has demanded compensation in the amount of 20 billion naira from Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
Following allegations of libel and defamation against him, Kanu demanded compensation.
Aloy Ejimakor, the leader of the IPOB, said Malami’s claim that he jumped bail despite a court order clearing him was libellous, speaking through his Special Counsel.
Keep in mind that on September 10, 2017, the military stormed Kanu’s home in Isiama Afaraukwu Ibeku, Abia State, forcing him to flee the country.
-Publicity The alleged invasion was contested and labeled a violation of Kanu’s fundamental human right.
However, the invasion was deemed unlawful, unconstitutional, and illegal by the courts.
Malami was quoted as saying in relation to the subject:Whether or not Nnamdi Kanu is released is determined by law and the rule of law. When making a decision about whether or not to release, is one;You take into consideration two things:You consider three things: the public and the national interest. You examine four aspects of the security situation:You examine the diplomacy on a global scale.
“Let me begin by talking about the rule of law. This individual has been granted bail due to the charges that the court has preferred against him.A case of a fugitive is established against the background of someone jumping bail to the international community.

“Three, as a result of international diplomacy, this person has used the international community or a foreign nation to launch an attack against a nation—or his own nation, for that matter—against his own person.
Therefore, all of these naturally play a role in deciding what to do.Therefore, the fact that you have succeeded in one case against multiple others that are pending proves that that case cannot be the sole basis and criterion for determining whether you are entitled to be released or not if you have established multiple cases of treason, homicide, and bail-jumping, among others, through judicial processes.
Ejimakor said, condemning Malami’s remark, “You have defamed and libelled our Client by your numerous utterances and publications (in national dailies) where you falsely stated that our Client jumped bail, despite the clear exoneration from bail jumping contained in the Judgment exhibited and quoted above.
“Considering the expressed judgment of the Abia State High Court, your above expressions were misleading, pernicious and careless and they were perused and heard overall and depicted our Client in light.
In a letter addressed to Malami with the subject line “RE:Pre-action notice and a formal demand for a settlement of the claim of defamation and libel against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s character based on your false, defamatory, and libelous publications that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu jumped bail.
In part, the letter reads:The amount of 20,000,000,000.00, or twenty billion Nigerian naira, which are exemplary and general damages.
“A personal, unreserved letter of apology to be boldly and prominently published full-page in two Nigerian newspapers with national circulation:The Sun and Guardian newspapers.
“You shall submit to your superior officer(s) and/or employer(s) a legal opinion stating that our Client did not jump bail in light of the High Court of Abia State’s judgment of January 19, 2022.”
“You may counter-propose other options or terms for settlement in response to this Letter. The foregoing demands are unaffected by them. Therefore, we request that you respond to this letter by legal mail (to the email address on this letterhead) within three days of receipt in order to settle this claim outside of court. If you fail to do so, our client will begin legal action against you right away and without further notice.
