Today, the 12th of December 2022, we paid Onyendu a visit at the DSS Headquarters in Abuja to provide him with relevant updates on the status of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN)’s appeal to the Supreme Court against the Court of Appeal’s decision to release Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and prevent his further detention, trial, or prosecution.
We observed during our briefing that, in addition to the obvious fact that the Federal Government has virtually abandoned the appeal by deliberately refusing to file ANY court process in prosecuting the appeal, which they initiated against the judgment of the Court of Appeal, there is a need to inform the world, as instructed by Onyendu, that those presently responsible for the delay in assigning a date for the speedy hearing of this appeal before the Apex Court are the same individuals or institutions that are relentlessly funding the criminal activities of soulless elements Otherwise, the release or freedom of Onyendu will be determined by the speedy hearing of this appeal, forcing the criminal elements to immediately leave our land and desert it.
Onyendu urges everyone, but especially foreign governments and institutions, to get the court to set a date for his appeal’s hearing. Onyendu is insisting that justice must be done and seen to be done in his case, but he did not rule out the possibility of plausible pressure from those who have been decimated in their own Court. Onyendu cited a case in which the court granted an order halting the execution of his judgment from the same court quickly but reversed course when it came to assigning a date for our appeal’s hearing at the Supreme Court.
In conclusion, Onyendu expressed complete faith in the expertise of his legal team, which was ably led by the man of letters, our indefatigable Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, as well as our capacity to once more outwit the Federal Government of Nigeria.
