One BnL member killed, Cameroonian soldiers injured in a clash in Bakassi

A member of Biafran separatist group, the Biafra Nations League (BnL), has died in a clash with Cameroon forces in Bakassi Peninsula, OAK METRO reports.

The incident occurred on Wednesday during a shootout between the secessionist group’s militia and Cameroon forces in Uyia, a Nigerian area ceded to Cameroon.

A military source said the clash occurred at sea, barely a week after BnL said it will not allow Nigerian and Cameroonian government to have peaceful atmosphere for international trade at sea in area which it regards as Biafra territory.

“We repelled their attack,” said the operative of Rapid d’intervention Battalion (BIR) who declined to comment on the report alleging that some of the government forces sustained bullet injures during the incident.

When contacted on Thursday, the BnL head of operations,…. confirmed the incident and noted that the secessionist group recorded a casualty.

“It is true. We lost a warrior, but we must continue,” he said.

Last month, the BnL which is demanding an independent state known as Biafra in the east of Nigeria, had chased away security operatives and hoisted Biafra flag at the entrance to Bakassi Local Government Area.

Security sources had linked the secessionist group to an attack that left a Cameroon soldier dead last month at the Bakassi Pennisula where it carries out most of its operations.
