PETITION: The grave violation of the rights of Biafrans in violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is one reason why Nigeria should be administered by the United Nations.

We humbly request that this assembly, which has upheld human rights without boundaries since 1945, intervene in a part of Biafra that has gone extinct and is on the verge of going extinct again for adhering to your prestigious 2007 Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples to Self-Determination, and whose leader’s rights have been grossly violated.

There is no threat to human nature, humanity, or human rights in Biafra. The Nation, Biafra has been a species of terror since 1914. Prior to the 1967 genocide known as the BIAFRA VS NIGERIA WAR, Biafra had been subjected to pogroms. It is essential to inform you that over 3.5 million civilian Biafrans and one-third of her 30,000 soldiers perished in the conflict.

Due to unequal marginalization, many Biafrans are currently dispersed throughout Nigeria and other nations, but we pay particular attention to Biafrans in Nigeria. Christians are subjected to terror by the sectional terror group known as Boko Haram, and as a result of the 1914 amalgamation of Christians-dominated South Africa and Muhammedian emirates in the North, Christians are easy targets.

Following the failure of the Aburi Accord, which had the potential to guarantee a peaceful Nigeria, Biafrans declared independence in 1967. However, they were once again re-annexed after a brutal genocide that was accompanied by a global silence conspiracy. Within the war’s first three years; Over 3.5 million Biafrans were killed by land, sea, and air blockades as a result of war crimes; Women, civilian men, and refugee camps were Nigerian soldiers’ primary targets while children were starving to death.

Biafrans were annihilated, forced to live like slaves, marginalized, and subjected to incessantly harsh economic and governmental policies, despite the fact that they own the resource that sustains Nigeria’s economy as a whole. In the hopes that Biafrans’ rise might lead to a resurgence of an independent state, every effort is made to impede their development, subjugate them, and keep them out of the mainstream. According to investigations, nothing has been addressed in their territory, and there has never been a federal government presence or observation of Biafraland as its federating unit.

The United Nations launched THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF THE RIGHTS OF INDIGEONOUS PEOPLE in 2007 during this honorable world assembly. However, this right gave Indigenous people’s activities legal backing. Biafrans took advantage of this ground-breaking declaration to fight for their nation’s independence within the confines of the 2007 UNGA law.

Nnamdi Kanu founded IPOB in 2012 to fight for the United Nations’ declared goal of Biafran self-determination. In the 2015 world convention of indigenous peoples, IPOB was properly represented. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was then made the official leader of IPOB.

Radio Biafra was established in lieu of armament, in accordance with the law; a haven for free speech and a symbol of truth for sensitization, debate, and the spread of the Biafran path. Radio Biafra became the voice of the Biafran people, and through the platform, our plight and the justification for our independence are also communicated to the rest of the world.

In collaboration with their Kenyan counterparts, the Nigerian Secret Police kidnapped IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Kenya in June 2021. Kanu was severely tortured before being transported to Nigeria and held in the DSS facility of the Nigerian government.

The United Nations Human Rights Council Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, among other competent courts, has ordered Kanu’s unconditional release and compensation for the violation of his fundamental rights. Despite this, Nigerian government officials and the DSS have flagrantly disobeyed the orders. As a result, Nnamdi Kanu has endured agonizing confinement and degrading treatment ever since. Also, keep in mind that the Appellate Court of Nigeria in Abuja clearly ruled that Nnamdi Kanu was discharged and acquitted. Nnamdi Kanu is still being held in a DSS detention facility, despite this declaration.

As a result, it makes sense to refer to the United Nations’ (UN) Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was made in Paris on December 10, 1984. We will also remind this revered assembly that they pledged to ensure the universal protection of this declaration.

The following is stated in the “217-A part” resolution:

Article 4: Slaves and the slave trade are outlawed, and no one shall be held in slavery or servitude.

Article 5 says that no one should be punished or treated cruelly, inhumanely, or degradingly.

Article 6 states that everyone is entitled to the same level of legal protection without regard to race or gender.

Article 7: Everyone has the right to the same level of protection against any kind of discrimination that goes against this declaration as well as any kind of incitement to such discrimination.

The Nigerian Presidency was forced to comply with the orders of the Court and UN Working Group, which were mandated to free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other hundreds of illegally detained Biafrans in several Nigerian detention facilities, in light of this and immediately over the Nigerian President, Buhari’s unethical confrontation with Biafrans and IPOB leader. By agitating for their right to self-determination, Biafrans have not committed any crime. To stop more innocent Biafran blood from being spilled, the United Nations should hold a referendum.
