Regarding Kanu’s release, I have an appointment with Buhari – Soludo.

Anambra state governor Chukwuma Soludo stated that he has scheduled a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and is awaiting a date in order to facilitate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s immediate release from detention.

In a quarterly statewide briefing on his government’s activities on Monday, Soludo disclosed this and reiterated his commitment to Kanu’s release.

He stated that the purpose of his meeting with Buhari was to talk about security concerns in the South East, specifically Kanu’s release.

Remember that the governor called for Kanu’s release at the start of his party’s All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) campaigns in Awka and promised to be a surety for Kanu if the federal government found it difficult to release him unconditionally.

Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, had, however, stated in response to Soludo’s request that Soludo had only made a statement and had not applied to the court or his office for Kanu’s release.

Soludo stated that he hopes to meet Buhari and discuss the necessity of Kanu’s release with him.

Soludo claims that Kanu’s release would make it easier for him to intervene in areas where certain groups employ secessionist agitation as a means of sustaining criminal activity.

“On the issue of Nnamdi Kanu, his release does not mean that insecurity will be eliminated completely,” he stated. The entire South East stands to benefit from the call.

When I went to visit him in prison, “he (Kanu) was saddened by the level of crime that was associated with the agitation.” He referred to it as a scourge.

“Now everyone is fighting for freedom and using it as a way to commit crime. He will be able to tell the difference between genuine freedom fighters and criminals if he is granted freedom.
