Senate ignores partisanship allegations, confirms 19 RECs

The Senate on Wednesday affirmed the 19 Inhabitants Constituent Officials whose names were sent by the President, Significant General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

The chosen people who were affirmed are Ibrahim Abdullahi (Adamawa); Obo Effanga (Cross Waterway); Umar Ibrahim (Taraba); Agboke Olaleke (Ogun); Samuel Egwu (Kogi), Onyeka Ugochi (Imo); Muhammad Bashir (Sokoto) and Ayobami Salami from Oyo State.

Others are Zango Abdu (Katsina); Sovereign Agwu (Ebonyi), Agundu Tersoo (Benue); Yomere Oritsemlebi (Delta); Yahaya Ibrahim, (Kaduna); Nura Ali (Kano); Agu Uchenna (Enugu); Ahmed Garki (FCT); Hudu Yunusa (Bauchi); Uzochukwu Chijioke, (Anambra) and Mohammed Nura (Yobe).

The Senate Board of trustees on the Free Public Constituent Commission led by Congressperson Kabiru Gaya (APC Kano South) had, last week, screened the chosen people in secret.

Introducing his report to the Senate, Gaya said, “To decide their appropriateness for the positions which they were assigned, candidates were posed inquiries that irritated for the most part on partisanship, enrollment of ideological groups, and how they expected to work on the electing system if and when their selections for arrangements are affirmed.”

The candidates, Gaya said, guaranteed the advisory group of their non-partisanship, non-participation of any ideological group, and vowed to release their obligations persistently as indicated by the set down regulations.

He said the advisory group tracked down no legitimacy in the petitions against four candidates that verged on supposed participation of ideological groups, partisanship, split the difference and inadequacy.

“The panel did a reasonable level of investment on the petitions by paying attention to the guard of the candidates and doing an itemized assessment of the petitions to decide the legitimacy or in any case of the charges against the four chosen people,” Gaya said.

The gathering in an explanation endorsed by its Executive, Auwal Rafsanjani, portrayed the designation as a technique to impact the cycle and result of the political race for the APC.

The CSOs guaranteed that the chosen one from Sokoto was an APC governorship hopeful in 2015 while the candidate from Enugu was claimed to be the more youthful sister of the APC Agent Public Executive, South-East among different charges.
