Sit-at-home: Allow Nnamdi Kanu to address media – HURIWA To Buhari’s

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, or HURIWA, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to grant IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu permission to address the media in order to end the confusion surrounding the South East sit-at-home order.

This comes after a series of skirmishes, targeted violence, and attacks orchestrated by armed supporters of the Simon Ekpa, who is based in Finland.

In recent months, South East residents and businesses have been under siege because they are unable to conduct their legitimate activities.

Although the leadership of the IPOB has frequently distanced itself from any sit-at-home movement and urged Nigerians living in the zone to conduct themselves lawfully, this has not stopped people from being killed in the South East in the name of sit-at-home.

Because the South East is closed on Mondays and other occasions, there have been reports of innocent Nigerians who violate the sit-at-home rule being killed or injured.

And now, in a statement that was signed by its national coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA is urging President Muhammadu Buhari to allow Kanu to personally address the media and affirm the suspension of the sit-at-home order.

HURIWA has also criticized the Department of State Services and law enforcement for failing to effectively prevent the dozens of bloody attacks with intelligence.

HURIWA asserted that the South East Police and other security agencies were content to observe the devastation, degradation, and near-extinction of the common people.

HURIWA pleaded, “The President should let Mazi Nnamdi Kanu speak to Igbo people to affirm or deny the report by his lawyers that he had ordered an end to the Sit-at-home order” and “The President should let Mazi Nnamdi Kanu speak to Igbo people to affirm or deny the report by his lawyers that he had ordered an end to the Sit-at-home order”

The group added that Kanu’s live television broadcast of the confusion surrounding the sit-at-home order would dispel the suspicions of “some persons loyal to Simon Ekpa that Nnamdi Kanu did not order an end to the economically stagnating sit-at-home order in the South East of Nigeria” and dispel the suspended animation.

Second, President Muhammadu Buhari ought to democratize arms licenses, as was done in Ukraine, so that sane adult Nigerians can carry AK-47s and AK-49s.

It stated, “If President Muhammadu Buhari is not the sponsor of the chaos in the South-East, then let his government adopt a pragmatic approach, such as allowing Kanu to address the media as a matter of extreme urgency to end these killings.”
