Soludo gives touts in Anambra immediate quit notice

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has visited Okpoko Ogbaru Council Area, Upper Iweka and various locations in Onitsha to for on-the-spot assessment, in line with his urban renewal objective.

Government House Correspondent Ejike Abana reports that the governor gave an immediate directive to all touts operating anywhere in the state to stop forthwith.

Other places the governor visited were, Industrial Harbour, Fruits and Vegetables Market Permanent Site, Obodoukwu Road, Ede Road and adjourning streets, St. Lawanga Owerri Road and Port-Harcourt Road.

During the tour, the Governor’s entourage made intermittent stops and addressed school children as well as a cross section of people living and doing business in the settlement, amidst cheers.

The move is part of efforts to begin his administration’s urban renewal initiative and tap into the abundant resources in Okpoko, which unfortunately prides as the largest Urban slum in the state.

Governor Soludo, who called on the people of Okpoko to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse, authorized Ndi Anambra to consider as thieves, people, who request for cash on the road in the name of tax or levy,expressing belief that the move will promote economic activities in the state and stressed that anybody caught will be dealt with according to the law, as his government is out to enforce the directive.

Governor Soludo, who described the visit as a fulfillment of one of his campaign promises said he decided to see things for himself and assured that the sacamori drainage will be cleared, as well as rehabilitation of the market around it while infrastructural development will be introduced into the area and all nooks and crannies of the state

Among his entourage were the Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, United Nations representatives, Security Chiefs in the state, Secretary to Anambra State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Executive Chairman, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Barrister Chike Maduekwe, among others.
