Solve BVAS challenges before rescheduled guber poll, Alex Otti tells INEC

Alex Otti, the Abia State governorship candidate for the Labour Party, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to resolve issues with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in time for the March 18 elections for state assembly and governorship.

Keep in mind that the electoral umpire has been criticized because BVAS did not transmit a significant number of election results from polling units in real time as promised by the Commission prior to the presidential election on February 25.

During an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Otti talked about his chances of winning the Abia governorship election. He said he still thinks BVAS will change the game, but he asked INEC to fix the problem with the devices.

“I still believe that BVAS is a game-changer and that something must have gone wrong and needs to be fixed, despite the discussions about it and everything else. Many of us were very hopeful and excited that votes would count this time, so INEC needs to improve its reputation.

“What happened on the 25th is not a representation of what happened in Ekiti and Osun. I followed the election in Ekiti and Osun. Therefore, I appeal to INEC to resolve the issue prior to the March 18 election,” Otti stated.
