Surveys: Buhari cautions foreign missions to avoid Nigeria’s inward issues

Yesterday, President Muhammadu Buhari reiterated his call to foreign government representatives in the country not to interfere in the country’s internal affairs in advance of the upcoming general elections.

While receiving Letters of Credence from the Ambassadors of Switzerland, Sweden, the Republic of Ireland, the Kingdom of Thailand, the Republic of Senegal, and the Republic of South Sudan at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Buhari issued a warning regarding foreign interference.

Femi Adesina, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, issued a statement in which he instructed the new foreign diplomats to keep their activities and concerns within the parameters of their duties and the reasons they were sent to Nigeria.

He said, “I wish you all success in your respective tours of duty and at the same time encourage you to take time to enjoy the unique nature and culture at your disposal as you travel across our country.” He also wished them all success in their respective tours of duty.

In addition, he informed the ambassadors that Nigeria was implementing strategies to contain the rash of unconstitutional changes in government in the West African region and was collaborating closely with ECOWAS to combat insecurity there.

In order to overcome obstacles in West Africa, he urged nations to work together.

“Support efforts to address the problem of insecurity, fight against corruption, diversify the economy, and our efforts in promoting good governance,” President Buhari requested of friendly nations.

The President congratulated the ambassadors on their predecessors’ efforts to advance these causes and stated that Nigeria, without a doubt, enjoys very cordial and mutually beneficial bilateral relations and cooperation with their respective nations.

The Ambassadors expressed their good wishes for the President’s final days in office, wishing Nigerian elections that were free and peaceful.
