The passage of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act is crucial to the war on corruption – Group

A group fighting corruption has stated that the passage of the Terrorism Prohibition and Prevention Act is essential to the fight against corruption as nations around the world observe International Anti-Corruption Day.

The Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Integrity Watch, or CFTIW, praised President Muhammadu Buhari for enacting the Terrorism Prohibition and Prevention Act, the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, and the Proceeds of Crimes Act. CFTIW stated that the acts have strengthened the nation’s institutional and legal frameworks for combating corruption.

In a statement that was released on Friday and signed by Victor Agi, the group’s Public Relations Officer, this information was made public.

It stated that International Anti-Corruption Day provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on, renew their commitment to the fight against corruption in the public sector, and enshrine a culture of transparency and accountability throughout the organization.

Keep in mind that the Proceeds of Crimes Act, the Terrorism Prohibition and Prevention Act, and the Money Laundering Prohibition Act were all signed into law by President Buhari in May of this year.

However, the Center noted that the feedback from its most recent workshop indicates that stakeholders need to be better able to advocate for the proper domestication and operation of these legal instruments.

The following was stated in part: Every year, the auspicious International Anti-Corruption Day gives stakeholders and the Center a unique chance to reflect on and recommit to the fight against corruption in the public sector and the establishment of a culture of transparency and accountability everywhere.

“By enacting anti-corruption legislation over the past year, Nigeria has progressed in accordance with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), and other regional and international commitments. The nation’s fight against corruption has been strengthened by the passage of the Terrorism Prohibition and Prevention Act, the Money Laundering Prohibition Act, and the Proceeds of Crimes Act.

“These laws are essential to the work that we do at the Center, which focuses on enhancing the anti-corruption environment; As a result, the Center, along with its partners in the criminal justice sector, has continued to build the capacity of key stakeholders drawn from Anti-Corruption Agencies (ACAs) and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) toward the effective implementation of these laws. This includes leading the advocacy that resulted in the legislation’s passage and eventual assent by President Muhammadu Buhari in May of this year.

“However, feedback from our most recent workshop suggests that stakeholders need to be better able to advocate for the proper domestication and operationalization of these legal instruments. As a result, the celebration of Anti-Corruption Day this year gives us a chance to remind stakeholders of their commitments to the fight against corruption, which must now move beyond annual rhetoric and become commitments based on actions.

As a result, and as the representative of Sub-Saharan Africa on the Board of the UNCAC Coalition, we are pleased with the direction in which the Coalition is addressing the International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) this year. In point of fact, stakeholders need to move from making promises to actually doing them, and it’s important to set up anti-corruption monitoring systems to make the government more accountable. One such corruption monitoring tool is the Center’s Transparency and Integrity Index (TII), which has proven to be useful for evaluating and enhancing public sector transparency and accountability in government business.
