Tight security as Appeal Court decides Adeleke, Oyetola’s suit today

As the Court of Appeal in Abuja issues its ruling today to determine the winner of the Osun State governorship election on July 16, the Osun State chapters of the People’s Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress have expressed optimism for victory.

In addition, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps’ Osun State Command stated that it had deployed personnel to the state’s critical infrastructure prior to the judgment.

The PDP’s Senator Ademola Adeleke had been declared the election’s winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to INEC, Adeleke received 403,371 votes to defeat the APC’s then-initiated Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, who received 375,027 votes.

However, Oyetola and the APC went to the tribunal after rejecting the poll’s outcome.

The majority verdict of the Justice Tertse Kume-led tribunal on January 27, 2023, declared Oyetola the poll winner and nullified Adeleke’s victory.

However, Adeleke was declared the poll winner in a minority ruling by Justice B. Ogbuli.

Adeleke and the PDP went to the Court of Appeal, dissatisfied.

Mr. Muhydeen Adeoye, a lawyer for Oyetola and the APC, informed our correspondent on Thursday that the Court of Appeal had informed the parties that the judgment would be handed down today.

Oladele Olabamiji, the Osun PDP Director of Media, stated that his party was hopeful that the Court of Appeal would reinstate Adeleke’s victory when discussing the party’s expectations.

“We are expecting justice for the electorate in Osun, who collectively voted for the state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke,” he declared. We anticipate fairness in accordance with the weight of the evidence presented to the court.

Additionally, Mr. Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC’s spokesperson, expressed optimism that the party would prevail.

According to Olabisi, “We are optimistic that we are going to come out with flying colors due to our iron-cast evidence before the court.”

In the meantime, an announcement made by Kehinde Adeleke, the Command’s acting Public Relations Officer, stated, “Ahead of Friday’s Appeal Court judgment on the matter between Governor Ademola Adeleke and Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola; Around the state’s important infrastructure, personnel are strategically placed.
