Death toll in the Sunday night attacks on communities in Kaura local government areas of Kaduna State has risen to 34.
The state government also confirmed two soldiers were killed, 200 houses, 32 shops, three vehicles and 17 motorcycles burnt.
A 24-hour curfew was declared in Kaura and Jema’a councils following the attacks and outbreak of violent protests in Kafanchan on Monday.
Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan confirmed the rise in the death toll yesterday.
He identified the 34 victims, among whom he said were two soldiers.
Aruwan said security agencies reported to the state government that “after search operations and detailed checks, 34 people have been confirmed dead following Sunday’s attack in Kaura local government area of the state.”
The Commissioner in a statement released yesterday evening said, “According to the report, four locations were attacked by unidentified assailants, namely: Tsonje, Agban, Katanga and Kadarko, all within Kagoro chiefdom of Kaura LGA.
“Two military personnel were among the 34 killed, with local residents making up 32 casualties,” he statement said, adding that seven people were injured and were receiving treatment.
“Furthermore, over 200 houses and 32 shops were burnt in the attack. Three vehicles and 17 motorcycles were vandalised,” iAruwan said in the statement.
Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i sent his condolences to families of those killed, while praying for the repose of their souls as he wish the injured a quick recovery.
“The Governor also condoled with the military, and the families of personnel who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty during this attack. The Governor offered prayers for the repose of their souls,” the statement said.
