Urgent Call For Action: Denial Of Proper Medical Care To A Prisoner Of Conscience, Nnamdi Kanu

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, a prisoner of conscience, requires immediate medical attention. His lawyers reported on January 9, 2023, that he has not received his routine medication in nearly two weeks.

Biafrans are a formidable people who always prefer to act in accordance with the law and its rules. However, at this point, the world’s silence regarding the Biafra case amounts to the pinnacle of injustice toward the Biafran people. If this is not the case, then how is it possible for an internationally renowned organization like Amnesty International to suddenly become silent about a similar case involving a Black man, specifically a Biafran? On July 16, 2010, Amnesty International made a very mandatory headline against the government of Indonesia on the arbitrary maltreatment and torture of a prisoner of conscience named Johan Teterrisa, who was seriously ill due to the cruelty and torture from the police.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is in a similar situation because Kanu’s lead lawyer recently shared information about his client’s health with the Nigeria Department of State Security (DSS), but the DSS agents refused to pay any attention to it. It is important to note that the same careless and wicked behavior by the DSS caused the legal counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to have to pay the force a sum of one million Nair

This was to guarantee that the IPOB leader and the learned men’s client would be treated fairly; however, the DSS rejected the money, and they have continued to subject the IPOB leader to degrading treatment and inhumane torture.

Amnesty International has never taken any serious action to condemn this unfair treatment of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafrans imprisoned unjustly in Nigerian prisons.

Biafrans are reminding Amnesty International that a similar injustice against Johan Teterrisa prompted the organization to ask global authorities to write to the Indonesian government in their respective languages to protest the violation of Johan Teterrisa’s rights. Amnesty International and the United Nations Human Rights Committee, on the other hand, do not consider the current violation of a Biafran freedom fighter’s rights to be of any significance.

It also serves as a reminder of the civility and power of Biafrans and how much their leader means to every Biafran citizen.

We are writing to world authorities to inform them that Biafra cannot be exchanged for anything. Why are Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s rights being restricted if Amnesty International will stand firm against Johan Teterrisa’s injustice?

If we want to improve the world, it is important to acknowledge that “an injustice against one is an injustice against all,” regardless of race.
