We Want UN Supervised Biafra Referendum, Won’t Get Involved In The Jamboree “Selection” Called Election in Nigeria–IPOB

On Monday, the Indigenous People of Biafra stated that it has no interest in the upcoming general elections and referred to them as a jamboree.

Emma Powerful, the movement’s spokesperson, issued a statement on Monday stating that all it desired was a referendum date for Nigeria’s exit.

However, it distanced itself from the ongoing attacks on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s facilities in some parts of the South-East, particularly in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State and Orsuihiteukwa, which is in the Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.

The IPOB spokesperson also rejected a rumored new South-East sit-at-home order.

“IPOB condemns the recent attacks on INEC offices and staff in Ihiala LGA, Anambra State,” Powerful stated. Imo State’s criminal gangs, Orsuihiteukwa in Orsu LGA and Ihiala LGA, are primarily supported and funded by dishonest politicians to demonize IPOB and ESN members.

We maintain that we have no interest in the Nigerian election selection process. As a result, we decided not to say anything about the jamboree. The only thing we want is a referendum date so that we can choose whether to live politically, socially, and economically in a Nigerian state or as an independent Biafran nation.

“Neither did we issue a sit-at-home order during the election period, nor did we ask any group to attack INEC facilities for any reason.

“It must be extremely ignorant to link IPOB to the malicious sit-at-home order. Information can be disseminated through IPOB’s own channels, such as through an official IPOB memo signed by the Head of the Directorate of State of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Chika Edoziem, or through its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful. It is important to disregard any IPOB public information that does not originate from the aforementioned channels.

“The attacks on INEC facilities during this time are not supported by IPOB because they won’t help our fight in any way. We are not seeking Biafra’s freedom through violence; we are only seeking it through peaceful means.”

In the meantime, Bruce Fein, the IPOB leader’s international counsel, has accused Catriona Laing, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, of being complicit in the agitator’s continued detention by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

In a letter titled “Sabotage of immediate, unconditional release of UK citizen Nnamdi Kanu pursuant to UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention Opinion No,” Fein made the assertion. 25/2022,” to Laing, which he wrote.

“Evidence has surfaced that you personally are sabotaging Mr Kanu’s unconditional release as mandated under jus cogens norms of international law binding on all nations regardless of consent,” Fein claimed. You have elevated hypocrisy and cynicism to new heights.

“On July 20, 2022, the United Nations Human Rights Council Working Group on Arbitrary Detention issued a unanimous opinion addressing Nnamdi Kanu’s kidnapping, torture, extraordinary rendition, and protracted detention without trial by Nigeria acting in collaboration with Kenya,” the attorney stated.

“The Working Group Opinion, among other things, urged Nigeria “to take urgent action to ensure the immediate unconditional release of Mr. Kanu.”

“In regards to Mr. Kanu, the Opinion compiled a list of the numerous violations of human rights committed in Nigeria and Kenya.

Your government is extremely outraged that Russian President Vladimir Putin attacked Ukraine and committed war crimes in violation of international law. By affirmatively encouraging the Nigerian government to continue the illegal detention of Nnamdi Kanu, however, you, like Mr. Putin, have made the United Kingdom complicit in flouting international law. What is your hidden agenda? For the United Kingdom, oil and gas? lucrative business deals in the UK?
