Why I didn’t support Obi, Igbo presidency – Wike

Lead representative Nyesom Wike of Streams State has said he didn’t uphold the official competitor of the Work Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi obviously at the Feb. 25 political race since no one examined Igbo administration with him.

NAN reports that Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide Publicity Secretary Dr. Alex Ogbonnia stated on Friday in Enugu that Wike made the declaration during a meeting the socio-political group had with him on Thursday in Port Harcourt.

According to Ogbonnia, Ohaneze Ndigbo confronted Wike at the meeting regarding his alleged role in opposing Obi during the presidential election.

He stated that Gov. Wike was surprised to learn that Ohanaeze would explain his role in the presidential election and was on a fact-finding mission.

Ogbonnia says the governor of Rivers said that the Southern Governors Forum first met in Asaba and agreed that power should go to the South after President Muhammadu Buhari.

He also explained that the governors would meet again in September 2021 in Enugu to reaffirm their support for the South gaining power.

He stated that “the issue of presidency to the Southeast was never on the table” throughout the meetings.

Wike also said that he tried as hard as he could throughout his political career to keep the Southern governors in power.

Several well-known Southeast residents betrayed Wike during the PDP presidential primary election and sabotaged the interests of the South by supporting a candidate from the north, which irked Wike.

He added that he was inspired to “provide logistics for Obi when he was in Rivers for the presidential campaign” by his unwavering dedication to the South.

Wike pointed out that, on the other hand, he was unwilling to even provide Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of his own People’s Democratic Party, with a place to campaign.

“What is circulating in the social media is the handiwork of Wike adversaries,” the governor added.

“I am a man who is courageous in his convictions and has no reason to lie or owe anyone an apology.

Ogbonnia quoted Wike as saying, “I am always ready to defend my actions any day and at any time, and I did not rig the presidential election against Obi.”
