Nigeria Needs N21 Trillion To Bridge Housing Deficit

On Sunday, Vice President Kashim Shettima revealed that Nigeria needs N21 trillion to effectively address the housing deficit, despite concerted efforts at all levels of government.

Shettima made this announcement in Sokoto during the groundbreaking ceremony for a 500-unit housing estate initiated by the State government.

The Vice President commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his commitment to addressing the housing needs of the state’s residents while emphasizing that Nigeria’s housing deficit remains a significant challenge.

Shettima stated, “Nigeria currently faces a housing deficit of 28 million units, and to meet our housing requirements, we require N21 trillion. The Governor’s proactive step in this regard is highly commendable and sets a positive example for other state governments.”

He also acknowledged the Governor’s achievements in completing infrastructure projects inherited from previous administrations, such as roads and flyovers.

Governor Aliyu provided further details about the housing estate, stating that it would primarily cater to civil servants and would be sold to them upon completion, with an owner-occupier arrangement.

Aliyu explained, “This project was originally initiated by former Governor Aliyu Wamakko but was later abandoned during the previous administration. However, we are determined to complete it for the benefit of our state’s employees and the general public.”

The event, which marked the first 100 days of the administration, was attended by Senator Aliyu Wamakko and Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, among other dignitaries.
