BREAKING! Mr. Ikechukwu Henry must be unconditionally released by the court and compensated with one hundred million naira.

On November 8, 2022, Barrister Nnaemeka Ejiofor, a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), filed a fundamental rights petition on behalf of Mr. Ikechukwu Henry with the Federal High Court in Enugu state.

Family Writers Press International (FWPI) has learned that the court ruled that the Nigerian Army’s continued detention of Mr. Ikechukwu Henry since August 2021 without charging the responsible citizen to court or releasing him on bail is illegal, unlawful, oppressive, and unconstitutional because it violates Mr. Henry’s rights to a fair hearing, the dignity of a human person, personal liberty, and the right to freedom of movement.

Keep in mind that Ikechukwu Henry, his wife, their four-month-old child, and Henry’s landlord were all illegally arrested on August 23, 2021. They were held in the military detention center at 82 Division in Enugu until Henry’s wife, baby, and landlady were released on August 24 of that same year. However, the military has refused to either charge Henry with a crime or release him since then.

The Honourable Court ordered the Nigerian Army to bring Henry before the Lordship or to immediately release him without condition after hearing Mr. Henry’s prayers, which were delivered by an IPOB lawyer named Barrister Nnaemeka. In addition, the judge mandated that the Army issue an open apology to Mr. Henry in two National Dailies and pay Mr. Henry whatever compensation the court deems appropriate.
