Obi won South-South, South-East over religion, ethnic agitation – Okowa

Ifeanyi Okowa, the Peoples Democratic Party’s vice presidential candidate and Governor of Delta State, claims that religious and ethnic sentiments contributed to Peter Obi’s overwhelming victory in the poll on February 25.

This was said by the governor of the Delta on Monday in Asaba as he reacted to the contentious presidential election result.

In the states of Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, and Anambra in the south, Obi prevailed.

In addition, he won in Delta, Okowa’s state, Cross River, and Edo states.

“A lot of factors contributed to the sweeping victory of Obi in South-South and South-East,” Okowa stated in a Monday speech.

“The Igbo presidency, religion, and the agitation that the presidency should move to the south of the country are key factors.

The South-South and South-East were both affected by the Obidient movement. Obi represented a change for the people. They believe that the South-East is about to turn. I believe that in a democratic process, people have exercised their rights, but INEC did not follow the Electoral Act.

Okowa stated, “It is a private issue for us as politicians and I can’t disclose to you our talk,” when asked if he had discussed the PDP’s affair in the state with former governor James Ibori.

The governor claimed that he had built more than 1,000 kilometers of drainages and 2,000 kilometers of roads, fulfilling his electoral promises to the people.

He asked individuals of Delta to decide in favor of the governorship up-and-comer of the PDP to guarantee congruity.

Delta is able to maintain continuity; therefore, I believe the incoming administration will continue where I left off if I am unable to finish them.

Okowa said he had no regrets about establishing three new universities in the state, in response to criticism from the All Progressives Congress’ governorship candidate and Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

“I do not regret establishing three new universities,” Okowa stated. There are currently four operating universities in Delta State.

“Those who criticize me because they want to be governor of this state and lie to Deltans about the three new universities are doing so for their own selfish reasons.”

The first and second intakes of students at the three new universities totaled at least 5,000.

The most important aspect is that I have made education more accessible to my people. When compared to other institutions, these have lower tuition costs.

“While Delta State universities graduate students and others move on to the next class, Delta State universities keep students at home over eight months of strike,”
