Queen Elizabeth backed Nigeria during Biafran War –Buhari

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) on Saturday said the United Kingdom under the late Queen Elizabeth remained by Nigeria during hot times.

He said the UK during the Civil War somewhere in the range of 1967 and 1970 upheld the solidarity of Nigeria, adding that the Queen visited the country two times before her destruction.

The President talked during a sympathy visit to the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, at her home in Abuja on Saturday. He was addressed by the Secretary to the Government to the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

Buhari said, “We have kept up with exceptionally close binds with the government. She was an exceptionally generous and exquisite sovereign. For the motivations behind recognition, the truth of the matter is that 90% of Nigerians don’t have the foggiest idea about any ruler in the UK other than the sovereign. We invite the new ruler and we anticipate areas of strength for a relationship with the UK.

“They have been an exceptionally impressive partner even amidst our troublesome time during the Biafran war; they represented the unbreakable quality of the Nigerian state, upheld and guaranteed that we conquered that issue.

We are joining forces to manage the rebellion so it doesn’t overpower us. They have consistently remained as an exceptionally impressive partner.”

Buhari added, “The top of the ward to which we have a place. Not just that, she was the head of state for a very long time from 1960 to 1963 and when we turned into a republic she failed to be. We have had extremely close binds with the sovereign. She visited the nation two times; first in 1953 when she went through around 20 days visiting various towns, and the subsequent one was in 2003 during president Olusegun Obasanjo’s residency.”

Laing had said on Friday that a sympathy book would be opened at the High Commission Office in the Central Business District area of Abuja from September 12 to 16 and on nineteenth from 11am to 3pm everyday.
