Abdulsalami: Tinubu’s Govt Inherited Difficult Economy, Security Challenges

Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has called on Nigerians to temper their expectations from the Bola Tinubu administration, as it grapples with a challenging economic situation, fuel subsidy removal, and security concerns. He made this statement during a visit by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, to both General Abdulsalami Abubakar and another former Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, in Minna, Niger State.

Meanwhile, Vice-President Kashim Shettima assured the Nigerian people that the administration would fulfill all its promises. He delivered this assurance during a condolence visit to the family of the late Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Giro, in Argungu, Kebbi State. Additionally, Shettima announced that the administration had secured a $163 million loan from the African Development Bank to support wheat production, with plans to launch the scheme soon.

General Abdulsalami congratulated the Tinubu administration on reaching its 100th day in office and praised the minister’s media background. He acknowledged the government’s difficult situation, including economic challenges, fuel subsidy removal, and security issues, and urged Nigerians to collaborate with the government in overcoming these challenges.

Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, emphasized the cultural importance of paying homage to elders like General Abdulsalami and General Babangida. He reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to utilizing Nigeria’s diversity for prosperity and development.

In a separate meeting in Minna, the minister assured Nigerians that the current administration would continue to develop policies that promote national values and orientation among citizens.

During his visit to Argungu, Kebbi State, Shettima expressed condolences to the family of Sheikh Abubakar Giro, a respected Islamic scholar. He emphasized the administration’s determination to fulfill its promises, particularly in the agricultural sector, with a focus on food security. Shettima also announced the $163 million loan for wheat production and mentioned that the scheme would be executed in Kebbi and Jigawa States.

The Emir of Argungu, Sumaila Mohammed Mera, praised the late Sheikh Giro’s achievements and prayed for Nigeria’s unity and progress. He thanked Tinubu and Shettima for their support. Sheikh Bala Lau, the National Leader of the Izala Sect, also expressed gratitude to Tinubu and Shettima for their show of love during the visit.
